Quarterly Classics Book Club

The Quarterly Classics Book Club meets quarterly at 7:00 p.m. at the Carnegie Library Museum, upstairs by the fireplace, to discuss both traditional and modern classic books. The book discussions are free and open to any interested adults. Paperback copies of the books are available at the library at least 60 days prior to the scheduled discussion at a discounted cost of $5.00 each. You may join us for one meeting or throughout the year. Stop at the library to sign up or call (515) 465-3569 for more information. Discussion leader is Perry Librarian Jill Cook.

Monthly Book Club 2012

Beginning in January 2012, a new monthly book club was formed and began meeting at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, eventually meeting during the noon hour instead. The first title was pre-selected and was Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. Join us for one month or all year as we discuss a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles. Discussion leader is Perry Library Director Mary Murphy. For current information call the library.

All Iowa Reads Book Discussion

2013

The 2013 selected title for All Iowa Reads is The Year We Left Home by Jean Thompson.  The Community-wide Book Discussion is scheduled for Monday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m., with guest discussion leader George Minot. More information will be available at a later date. Call the library for updated information.

2012

The 2012 All Iowa Reads book discussion event for selected title Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder is Tuesday, September 25, at 7:00 p.m., in the library Community Room. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this community wide event. Books are available to check out or to purchase at the library for a discounted rate. The library encourages participants to form their own small groups or to "buddy up" with a reading partner to discuss the book on their own, and then to join us for the main discussion on September 25. A lunchtime listening group will also meet from 11:30 to 1:00 on September 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, and 20, at the library, for anyone interested. Call the library to sign up.

2011

All Iowa Reads 2011 Book Discussion Event with Tom Morain:  Sing Them Home by Stephanie Kallos:  7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, Perry Library Community Room

Everyone is invited to participate in this free city-wide book discussion event.  We are very fortunate to have Tom Morain of Graceland University as our guest discussion leader.  Tom has been with us for All Iowa Reads and The Big Read discussions in the past and is a skilled and dynamic facilitator.  We have copies of Sing Them Home to check out at the library in regular, large print, and audiobook formats and a number of paperback copies for patrons to purchase.  (Books are $5 for those who sign up for the discussion.  The cost is subsidized by the Friends of the Library.) 

Please read along with us and partipate in this state-wide literacy initiative for adults and plan to join us for an engaging discussion this October!  Come to the library to sign up for the discussion or call 465-3569 for more information.

The Perry Public Library has previously hosted two other book discussion groups for adults:


  • The Book Discussion Group met at the Perry Public Library in the Community Room on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  Books were available for $8.00 from the Library.  Each October, we voted for the upcoming year's selections.  View our 2009 Selections2008 Selections are also available for viewing.
  • The Mystery Book Club met from 2008 through 2009 on the first Wednesday of each month.  Books were available for $8.00 from the Library.  View a list of titles previously read by the Mystery Book Club.
